9 Greatest Baseball Movies Of The 90s
They just don’t make ’em like they used to.
In the 90s, one after another, Hollywood was knocking baseball movies out of the park. Here’s a look back at the 9 greatest baseball movies of the 90s.
9. For Love Of The Game
It’s no Field of Dreams, but Kevin Costner in a baseball movie makes this a winner.
The ultimate sport for losers, with a baseball twist. It’s too bad this sport never took off. C’mon, who didn’t yell “Your mom’s going out with…… SQUEAK!” during a game of H-O-R-S-E?
7. Mr. Baseball
I know this was about baseball… but that mustache!
6. Little Big League
Every 90s kids dream – inherit the Minnesota Twins! Even though this was the most absurd plot ever, the baseball action was incredible, plus it included Ken Griffey Jr. (aka “The Kid”). That alone makes this one of the greatest baseball movies of the 90s.
5. A League Of Their Own
“Are you crying? Are you crying? ARE YOU CRYING? There’s no crying! THERE’S NO CRYING IN BASEBALL! No crying!” Another home run performance by Tom Hanks.
4. Angels In The Outfield
At #4, this may seem too high for most, but not for me. You have to be a life-long Mariners fan to understand. Angels in the Outfield gave me hope. I’m still waiting, but they’re “always watching,” right?
3. Major League 2
“Fly ball… caught“. Thanks to Willy Mays Hayes, the Wild Thing, and several other incompetents, baseball was somehow saved in Cleveland! Talk about the ultimate front office backfire.
2. Rookie Of The Year
Did he just say, “Funky butt loving?” Yes he did. And sadly Henry Rowengartner’s freak accident that helped the Chicago Cubs win the pennant in this fictional film is probably more likely than the Cubs actually winning the pennant.
1. The Sandlot
Hands down one of the greatest baseball movies ever made… if you were a kid growing up in the 90s. The Sandlot also gave us the most over-used quote of our time – “You’re killing me Smalls!”
